Vacation

Jaxon & I are headed out on vacation today! We'll be in Pawley's Island, SC with my family (Dad, Stepmom, sis & bro). They are down there for I think about 10 days, but we're just going for four days. Jack has to work so he's saying behind, bummer. This is the first roadtrip with the baby & the first overnight stay (plus his first time at the beach obviously) - so we'll see how it goes! I've got a ton of stuff packed up & hopefully not forgetting anything important. I'll try to post pics as soon as we get back - have a great week!

Consignment Sales

Many of my friends & sorority sisters are new mommies too and they've all been going to all the local consignment sales. I've had some reason each time that I've been unable to go.

Well two of the girls went yesterday to the one at the fairgrounds & picked up a playmat for me. That was the one thing I coudl think of that I really wanted him to have. It is perfect & looks like new, even had the instructions. They found it for $23 when it would normally be over $60! I did find out later it was missing one of the little dangly toys, but Jaxon doesn't know any different.

I didn't want to miss out so I decided to go today. Tomorrow is 50% off, but I doubt I'll make it since I am headed to the beach. I had to drop something off at Jack's parents house & ended up taking Rita with me to the sale. I'm so glad she went because it was much more fun with someone else!

We could have spent hours there, but we managed to keep it down to a reasonable time by sticking roughly to the few things I said I needed to look for. Between the two of us, we spent right at about $100. We got him a bouncy seat, another playmat & a few toys to leave at their house, a ton of clothes in 6-12mos sizes and several toys for our house. One of the toys is a LeapFrog Tad interactive plush toy that lights up, plays music, etc that sells for $78 on Amazon!

So now I'm hooked! They have this same sale again in January. http://www.kidsexchange.net/

Smiley Boy

Finally got a pic of him smiling - sort of...

These are from my phone. I'll try to get some better ones with my real camera.

First Laugh

It probably doesn't really count but it made me smile anyway. Jaxon was fast asleep beside me on the bed when he suddenly let out a short little laugh, complete with a big smile afterwards. Then he was back to his normal expressionless sleep. You gotta wonder, what was he dreaming about?

Mirror, Mirror, on the wall...

Jaxon liked the mirror at the doctors office so much that I got him one for home. He likes to stare & bat at himself. He kept himself entertained while we did the laundry & other chores.

Finger lickin good

Jaxon's fingers must be yummy tasting. Over the last few days he's really taken to sticking his fist in his mouth (or trying to) pretty regularly. Just the right one though, I guess the left side is no good.

Happy Forth of July!

Happy Forth Everyone! I hope all had a great day!

We spent the day at the pool in Raleigh with family. My dad's pool had a big catered celebration. The food was pretty good (from the Barbeque Lodge, one of my favorites) and the weather was wonderful. Papi, GiGi, Uncle Sophie & Cousin E were all there. Noah was with his aunt ('traded' for Cousin E) so he didn't join us. The pool folks did a great job of setting up the holiday celebration. They had all sorts of games, a bouncy house thingy, sno-ball maker, annual bike parade & of course the food.

Jaxon was not happy about being in the pool this time. I don't really know why. We tried both the big pool which was a little cool, and the baby pool which was like bath water. Temp didn't seem to make a difference. Last time he seemed to like it and kicked his little legs so fast. He cried everytime today so I guess it just wasn't a swim day for him.

Mama & Daddy's Date Night

Before having a child, we never had 'date night'. Mostly because any night could be a night for dinner & a movie or anything else we wanted to do. Though we take Jaxon out to dinner all the time, now it takes planning to manage to add in a movie. So the baby books & childcare mags all tell me that we need to have 'date night'. And that it should be a scheduled regular event where talking about the kids is off-limits. We'll see, for now I just wanted to see a movie.

Hancock was released yesterday and was one I'd like to see in the theater.. so I called in help from Papi & GiGi. Of course they were thrilled to keep him. The downside is that instead of going to the brand new theater right near us in Garner, we had to drive all the way into Raleigh. Since I'm breastfeeding nearly exclusively (only supplementing with expressed milk on occasion), an overnight stay is not feasible yet. So we dropped him off, had our date, and then picked him up. We were all tired for the drive home after the movie. It'll be a lot easier when he can stay the night.

We ate at the Cheesecake Factory and I highly recommend the Steak Diane (I had the Shrimp Scampi & Steak Diane combo, but thought the scampi was just ok). The movie was pretty good if you are into the whole superhero thing (which I am very much) or if you are a Will Smith fan.

Mr. P and JP

Our friend B & her son Mr. P came to visit us this evening!

P turns a year old on July 4th (yep, Born on the Fourth of July) and was cracking us up. He's so fast when he crawls but also showed off his new walking skills. And, he showed us where we still need some work on our baby-proofing. Actually it's not too bad since the whole house has long since been puppy-proofed but we apparently still have room for improvement. We (mostly Jack) also quized B on all P's milestones.. is he doing this? what about that? Ha. I loved how he would sit down and then roll onto his back to drink his bottle. Too cute!
